Frequently Asked Questions

1. What do I bring with me to withdrawal management (detox) or residential treatment?

You should bring 7-days worth of clothing. We have someone who will do your laundry weekly. Although we provide hygiene items, such as toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, and shampoo, you are more than welcome to bring your own. We also provide a pillow and bedding, but you can bring your own if you like.

2. If I go to treatment, do I need money on me?

You will get served 3 well-balanced meals per day, so you don’t necessarily need money. However, we do have vending machines and pay phones, so you may want to bring money or purchase a calling card for the phones.

3. What are the visiting hours?

Due to the pandemic, our residential clients are allowed to have visits once every 3 weeks. Visiting is on Saturdays from 1pm-4pm. We do quarantine clients for the first 5-7, so while in quarantine visiting is prohibited. Once clients are cleared for COVID, they will be allowed to receive visits. Visitors are expected to follow Cedar Houses COVID protocols which will be provided prior to the visit. Clients in Withdrawal Management (detox) will not receive visits until they are transitioned to residential treatment.

4. What type of curriculum does your program use?

For residential treatment, we use the Living in Balance Curriculum by Hazelden and for Outpatient we use the Matrix Model. We have also integrated several other evidenced-based curriculum.

5. What other groups do you have?

In residential treatment we have Relapse Prevention, Anger Management, Medical Aspects, Parenting, Step-Study, Core Process Groups and Co-occurring Disorders group.

6. Do you have a therapist?

Yes, we have three Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists who are available to conduct assessments or individual therapy when necessary. Our LMFT’s facilitate a Seeking Safety Process Group where clients can discuss sensitive issues in a safe and caring environment.

7. Do you have 12-step meetings for he clients in residential treatment?

Yes, we currently have one 12-step meeting per week, and we are planning to add more.

8. Can my family bring me outside food during visiting?

Yes, your family can bring fast food or even a home cooked meal during visiting. We just ask that you clean up your mess when you’re done.

9. Do you have a gym?

Yes, we have two gyms, one for the men and one for the women. They are open in the mornings and in the evenings to fit everyone’s schedule.

10. Is there a blackout?

Yes, there is a 5-day blackout where you will be unable to make or receive any phone calls. In addition, you must be out of quarantine prior to receiving a visit.

11. Do you offer family therapy?

Yes, we have family group at our main location as well as our perinatal location every other Monday except for holidays from 6pm-7:30pm. You will be in group with other families, but it is a safe environment to work through family related issues. This group is facilitated by a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist.

12. In residential treatment, do we ever go on outings?

Due to the pandemic, all outings have been temporarily suspended.

13. Can I have my cell phone in treatment?

We do not allow any electronics in the facility, such as cell phones, tablets, or laptops. We have pay phones for you to make calls. If you do not have any money, you can always use your assigned counselor’s phone.

14. Can I smoke or use a vape?

Yes, we have designated smoking areas outside. If you vape, we ask that your vape juices be in sealed bottles so we can confirm its contents.

15. What days can my family drop off property to me?

Property can be dropped off at the facility Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm (no exceptions).

16. What food items am I allowed to bring to treatment?

Instant Coffee, Hot Chocolate or Tea (plastic container only)

Powdered Creamer (sealed package or plastic container only)

Sugar (packets or sealed plastic container)

Soup or Pasta (microwavable only, no canned foods)

Crackers (any kind)

Peanut Butter (individual serving packets only, no jars)

Nuts, (must be without shells) Trail Mix, Dried Fruit (sealed plastic container)

Microwavable Entrees (non-perishable, single serving)

Tuna/Chicken (vacuumed sealed non-perishable, single serving, no cans)

Bottled Water/Flavored Water/ Gatorade (no larger than 24 oz.)

Powdered Drink Mix (Kool-Aid, Crystal Light, small containers or packets only)

Microwavable Popcorn

Chips/Popcorn (single serving size bags, no large bags)

Pop-tarts/Pastries/Hostess Snacks (Individually wrapped)
